Overview

How we run this capability

The Ostmark metrology hall is held at 20 °C ± 0.5 on an isolated foundation, because a measurement taken in an uncontrolled environment is an opinion. Coordinate measuring machines, optical systems, and surface metrology all sit within it.

Laser trackers and portable arms take measurement to the part when the part is 12 metres long and weighs 30 tonnes. Large weldments are aligned and verified in the fixture they were welded in.

Gauge R&R studies are run before a measurement system is trusted with a characteristic, and repeated on the schedule in the control plan.
